AP Dynamics helped one of its clients to bring NOx emission from a large burner within levels allowable by Alberta regulators.

A computational model was developed and validated for known operating conditions. The model was then used to predict NOx emission for a range of parameters that can be easily changed by the operator. This effort successfully reduced the emission by almost 40% by adjusting the combustion characteristics. This reduction was achieved without the use of the flue gas recycling thus making it a very effective and efficient solution.

In the process, AP Dynamics developed a methodology which used computational fluid dynamics to provide an a-priori map of emission which can be used as a guide furnace tune-u
